History
Medicine River Farms is composed of three distinct properties.  Two farms are in southern Iowa and one is in east central Iowa.  The southern Iowa farms are located near the Mormon Trail that went from Nauvoo, Illinois, to Salt Lake City, Utah.
The farm located furthest south is approximately three miles north of the Missouri border.  It is a working farm that has three ponds and horse trails throughout.  The farm also contains many stretches of long and short stem native prairie and has groves of oak savanna, walnut, and pine.

Promise City Property
The second southern Iowa farm is located approximately ten miles from Lake Rathbun near Promise City.  This unit contains a small dwelling and outbuildings.  It is located near an incredible recreational facility that includes a large indoor pool and Jacuzzi along with an elaborate work-out and dining facility.  The closeness to Lake Rathbun makes this farm a particularly inviting site with the new destination park that includes a fantastic lodge and golf course located on Lake Rathbun.  Future plans for the Promise City property include the building of a horse barn and another large pond.
Solon Property:  remodeled 1890's barn, shop & apartment, and covered round arena.
The northern most property is located on the north shore of Lake MacBride situated between Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.  It includes a four-stall horse barn and a leased three-stall barn.  Four turnout sheds are on the property along with large turnouts for the stallions and other horses.  The property also has a restored 1890's barn, heated shop and apartment.  A covered round arena is the latest addition.

The northern facility is where most of the training, clinics, and day-to-day operations take place.  Future plans inlcude a "Ride-a-Lipizzan" program where guests stay for an extended weekend and learn both riding and training skills.  Those that possess the necessary skills will be eligible to participate in the "Ride-a-Lipizzan" program.

Medicine River Farms is a horse training and educational facility dedicated to helping individuals improve their skills and knowledge.  Clinics and demonstrations are conducted throughout the year.  Please continue to watch our
